Our Story

Our Story - Charlie

PATCH was born when James Dutton (the founder of Nutricare) noticed that while trying to protect his son’s adventure wounds his skin was in fact reacting badly to a common wound covering and making the wound worse.

This puzzled James and he set off on his mission to find out why. He was shocked to discover that there is an array of chemicals that lurk in the common plasters. He became motivated to find better alternatives when he found that Charlie wasn’t alone with his reactions. His research found that a staggering number of the of the world’s population can’t wear common wound care coverings, which was predicted to be on rise.

Patch has achieved the following results; 150 Closed internal tests have resulted in 0% reaction across people who have allergic reaction type to current products.

Our Story - Xavier

The other side of James’ motivations were spurred on by his other son, Xavier, who hates putting creams on his skin. As parents you can get pretty creative with ways to put an anti-septic/anti-bacterial cream on the plaster, but no matter what was tried, Xavier would always know and often tantrums would follow.

PATCH strips are available in ‘Natural/Neutral/plain’ as well as with the gauze impregnated with Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera or Activated Charcoal.
– Coconut Oil is great to soothe the skin.
– Aloe Vera is meant for blisters & burns
– Activated Charcoal is meant for bites, splinters and anything that may cause infection.
PATCH strips can be used interchangeably (i.e. Activated Charcoal on a blister) but the added ingredients won’t provide much/if any added effect on healing the wound compared to the natural version.

Bamboo

Organic bamboo fibre contains flavones, glycosides, phenolic acids, and amino acid compounds, providing antioxidant, skin-soothing, and astringent properties. We think it’s the best material for wound covering because it’s comfortable, sustainable, biodegradable and compostable. It’s also breathable to aid recovery.

Coconut Oil

Scientific research has found that coconut oil has a myriad of natural healing benefits for the skin, including antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Coconut oil works at reducing inflammation and keeping the skin moisturised to help regenerate new skin cells. It is 100% safe and effective with no known side effects or toxicity.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has been used for thousands of years to treat wounds, burns and other skin conditions. The polysaccharides have been known to increase cellular movement, which leads to faster and more efficient tissue regrowth. The glycoproteins are an effective pain reliever and control the inflammation response.

Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal has been known to neutralise many different kinds of pathogens that directly or indirectly produce or promote infection. It can absorb poisons and toxins, taking them up through the permeable skin layers and remove them from the body. Once impurities are removed, the skin’s healing process starts.
